PMS pattern quiz
Tell the difference between PMS and PMDD.
This quiz is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. Your answers stay on your device — nothing is saved.
PMS vs PMDD — the real difference
PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) is common and usually mild-to-moderate: bloating, cravings, breast tenderness, a shorter fuse. It starts in the week before your period and resolves once bleeding begins. PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) is a clinical diagnosis that affects roughly 3–8% of menstruating people. Symptoms are severe enough to disrupt work, relationships, or how you feel about yourself. It's a medical condition and it's treatable.
Why tracking matters for PMDD
A formal PMDD diagnosis requires prospective tracking of symptoms across at least two cycles. Looking back from memory is less reliable than daily logs. Apps (including ours) make this far easier than the old clipboard days.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a diagnosis?
No. This is a pattern-recognition tool to help you have a more useful conversation with a clinician. A proper diagnosis requires a licensed professional and at least two cycles of prospective tracking.
My answers changed this cycle — should I retake it?
Absolutely. Hormonal changes, life stressors, and starting or stopping birth control can all shift your pattern. Retaking every quarter is a fine cadence.
