SECTION 1

1.  Getting Started

Welcome to Flow & Glow. This section walks you through everything from downloading the app to completing your first setup so your predictions are as accurate as possible from day one.

How do I download Flow & Glow?

Flow & Glow is free to download on both iOS and Android.

1.       On iPhone or iPad: open the App Store, search for "Flow and Glow," and tap Get.

2.       On Android: open Google Play, search for "Flow and Glow," and tap Install.

3.       Open the app and tap Get Started to begin setup.

You do not need to create an account to start tracking. An account lets you back up your data and access it across devices, but it is optional.

Related: How do I create an account? | How do I use Flow and Glow on more than one device?

How do I set up my cycle for the first time?

When you open Flow & Glow for the first time, a short onboarding flow will ask you a few questions to personalise your experience. You will need to know roughly when your last period started.

4.       Enter the date your last period started. If you are not sure of the exact date, your best guess is fine. The app will refine its predictions over time as you log more data.

5.       Enter your typical cycle length. If you are not sure, the average is 28 days, but anywhere from 21 to 35 days is considered normal.

6.       Enter how long your period usually lasts. Most people experience 3 to 7 days.

7.       Choose a tracking mode: Cycle Tracking (default), Trying to Conceive, or Pregnancy. You can switch modes at any time in Settings.

Your first prediction is ready immediately. The more you log each cycle, the more accurate your future predictions will become.

Related: How does Flow and Glow predict my next period? | Can I switch tracking modes later?

Can I import my cycle data from another app?

Yes. You can bring your cycle history into Flow & Glow in two ways.

From Apple Health (iOS)

If your previous app logged data to Apple Health, Flow & Glow can read it automatically once you grant permission. Go to Settings, then Privacy, then Health Permissions and tap Connect Apple Health. Select the data categories you would like to share.

Manual import

If your data is not in Apple Health, you can log past periods manually. Tap the calendar on the home screen, select a past date, and tap Log Period. Working backwards through a few months of history will meaningfully improve prediction accuracy.

Tip

The more past cycles you log, the smarter your predictions become. Even adding three or four past periods will make a noticeable difference.

Related: How do I log a past period? | How do I connect Apple Health?

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can use Flow & Glow without an account. Your data will be saved on your device only.

Creating a free account lets you back up your data securely, access Flow & Glow on multiple devices, and restore your data if you switch phones. Your email address is optional — you can sign up with just a username if you prefer. We never require your real name.

Related: How do I create an account? | Is my data safe without an account?

How do I create an account?

Tap the profile icon in the top right corner of the home screen, then tap Create Account. You will be asked for a username and optionally an email address. A password is required if you want to log in across devices.

Once created, your data syncs securely to your account. Email and real name are both optional. We store your identity separately from your health data by design, so your cycle logs are never directly linked to your name or email address.

SECTION 2

2.  Tracking Your Cycle

The more you log, the more Flow & Glow learns about your unique rhythm. This section covers every way you can record data and make the most of phase guidance.

How do I log my period?

8.       Tap the calendar icon on the home screen.

9.       Tap today's date (or the date your period started).

10.   Tap Log Period Start.

11.   Optionally add flow intensity (light, medium, heavy), cramps, mood, or other symptoms.

12.   Tap Save.

When your period ends, tap the last day and tap Log Period End. This helps the app track your cycle length accurately.

Tip

You can log a period that started a few days ago. Just tap the correct past date on the calendar.

Related: How do I log a past period? | How do I edit or delete a log entry?

How do I log symptoms, mood, and other details?

You can add a wide range of details to any day. Tap a date on the calendar, then tap the plus icon to add a log. Categories include:

All symptom logging is optional. Log as much or as little as feels right for you. Flow & Glow will never penalise you for skipping a day.

Related: What is basal body temperature and how do I track it? | How does cycle-phase guidance work?

How do I log basal body temperature?

Basal body temperature (BBT) is your lowest resting temperature, measured first thing in the morning before you get out of bed or drink anything. A slight rise typically indicates ovulation has occurred.

13.   Take your temperature with a BBT thermometer first thing in the morning, before getting up.

14.   Open Flow and Glow and tap today on the calendar.

15.   Tap Add Log, then select Temperature.

16.   Enter the reading and tap Save.

BBT tracking works best when measured at the same time every day, after at least 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Illness, travel, alcohol, or a disrupted night's sleep can affect the reading.

Medical Disclaimer

BBT is an informational indicator. It is not a medically validated method of contraception when used through this app. Please speak to a healthcare provider if you are using fertility awareness for family planning.

Related: How does Flow and Glow predict my fertile window? | How do I connect a wearable?

How does Flow & Glow predict my next period?

Flow & Glow uses a machine-learning model that learns your personal cycle patterns. It works by analysing your logged period history, weighting your most recent cycles more heavily than older ones, and calculating a personalised prediction rather than assuming a fixed 28-day cycle.

When you first set up the app, predictions are based on the average data you enter. As you log more cycles, typically after three to four full cycles, the predictions become noticeably more accurate.

The app also shows a confidence indicator alongside each prediction, so you always know how certain the estimate is.

Important

Cycle predictions are probabilistic estimates. Many things can shift your cycle, including stress, illness, travel, changes in sleep, medication, and hormonal changes. Flow and Glow predictions are informational only. They are not a substitute for professional medical advice and must not be used as a method of contraception.

Related: Why is my predicted date different from last month? | What counts as a late period?

How does cycle-phase guidance work?

Your cycle has four phases, each associated with different hormone levels and energy patterns. Flow & Glow identifies your current phase and offers gentle, practical suggestions matched to how you might feel.

Phase guidance is personalised to your logged data. If you log symptoms consistently, the guidance will adjust to reflect your actual patterns over time.

Medical Disclaimer

Phase guidance is based on general wellness principles and your logged data. It is not clinical advice. If you are experiencing significant symptoms related to your cycle, please speak to a healthcare professional.

Related: How do I log symptoms? | Can I customise the guidance I receive?

Can I switch between tracking modes?

Yes. Flow & Glow has three tracking modes: Cycle Tracking, Trying to Conceive, and Pregnancy. You can switch at any time without losing your existing data.

17.   Go to Settings.

18.   Tap Tracking Mode.

19.   Select your new mode and tap Confirm.

Switching modes changes the focus of your dashboard and guidance. Trying to Conceive mode gives greater prominence to your fertile window, ovulation indicators, and conception tips. Pregnancy mode shifts tracking to weeks of pregnancy, symptom logging for pregnancy, and a timeline of pregnancy milestones.

If you experience a pregnancy loss and need to return to standard cycle tracking, go to Settings, then Tracking Mode, and select Cycle Tracking. We are truly sorry for your loss. Your data will be kept exactly as it was, and you can return to Pregnancy mode at any time.

Related: How do I use the Trying to Conceive mode? | How do I set up Pregnancy mode?

SECTION 3

I forgot my password. How do I reset it?

20.   On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot Password.

21.   Enter the email address linked to your account.

22.   Check your inbox for a reset link. It expires after 24 hours.

23.   Tap the link, create a new password, and sign back in.

If you did not register with an email address, or if you cannot access the email account you used, please contact us at support@flowandglow.app with your username and we will help you regain access.

Check your spam or junk folder if the reset email does not arrive within a few minutes.

Related: How do I change my email address? | How do I delete my account?

How do I use Flow & Glow on more than one device?

Flow & Glow syncs your data across devices when you are signed into the same account. Sign in with your username and password on any device and your full cycle history will appear automatically.

If you are not signed in on the second device, your data stays on the original device only. We recommend creating an account if you use more than one device or plan to switch phones.

Related: How do I create an account? | How do I restore my data after switching phones?

How do I restore my data after switching phones?

If you have an account, your data is already backed up. Simply download the app on your new phone, open it, and sign in with your username and password. Your full cycle history will restore automatically.

If you did not have an account and your data was stored on your old device only, unfortunately we are unable to recover it. Going forward, creating an account ensures your data is always backed up.

Related: How do I create an account? | How do I download my data?

How do I download a copy of my data?

You have the right to a copy of all the personal data we hold about you. To export your data:

24.   Go to Settings.

25.   Tap Privacy.

26.   Tap Download My Data.

27.   Choose your format: JSON (full data) or CSV (spreadsheet-friendly).

28.   Tap Request Export. You will receive a download link by email within 24 hours.

Important

Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All your cycle history, symptoms, notes, and predictions will be removed immediately and cannot be recovered.

SECTION 7

7.  Health Questions

Medical Disclaimer

Everything in this section is for general information only. Flow and Glow is a wellness app, not a medical service. Nothing here is medical advice for your specific situation. If you have health concerns, always speak to a qualified healthcare professional. If you are in a medical emergency, call 999 (UK), 911 (US), or 112 (EU) immediately.

What is a normal cycle length?

A typical menstrual cycle is between 21 and 35 days, measured from the first day of one period to the first day of the next. A period itself usually lasts between 3 and 7 days. Cycle length can naturally vary by a few days from month to month.

Flow & Glow will calculate your average cycle length as you log more data and use that to personalise your predictions.

Medical Disclaimer

If your cycle is consistently shorter than 21 days, longer than 35 days, or changes significantly from what is normal for you, it is worth speaking to a doctor to rule out any underlying cause.

Related: Why is my predicted period date different from last time? | My period is late. What could cause this?

My period is late. What could cause this?

A period can be late for many reasons, most of which are not a cause for concern. Common causes include:

Flow & Glow will automatically update your next predicted period if you log that your current one has not started yet. You can do this by tapping the flag icon on the home screen and selecting Period is Late.

Medical Disclaimer

If your period is more than a week late and pregnancy is a possibility, consider taking a pregnancy test. If your periods are frequently irregular or absent, speak to a doctor, as this can sometimes be linked to conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or thyroid issues that are worth investigating.

Related: How do I tell the app my period is late? | What is my fertile window?

What is my fertile window and how is it calculated?

Your fertile window is the days of your cycle when pregnancy is most likely to occur. It typically spans around six days, ending on the day of ovulation. Ovulation usually happens around the middle of your cycle, but this varies from person to person and can shift from cycle to cycle.

Flow & Glow estimates your fertile window based on your logged cycle history. Predictions become more accurate as you log more cycles. For added accuracy, you can also log ovulation test results and basal body temperature (see Section 2).

Medical Disclaimer

Flow and Glow cycle predictions and fertile window estimates are not a medically validated method of contraception. Do not rely on them to prevent pregnancy. If you are trying to avoid pregnancy, speak to a healthcare provider about clinically validated contraceptive options.

Related: How do I track ovulation? | I am trying to conceive. How can the app help?

I am trying to conceive. How can Flow & Glow help?

Trying to Conceive mode gives you a personalised fertile window, clear ovulation predictions, and guidance on the best days to try based on your cycle data. To switch, go to Settings, then Tracking Mode, then Trying to Conceive.

You can also log ovulation test (LH test) results, basal body temperature, and cervical mucus to get a fuller picture of your fertile window. The more you log, the more personalised your insights become.

Medical Disclaimer

Flow and Glow can help you understand your cycle, but it cannot guarantee conception. If you have been trying to conceive for 12 months (or 6 months if you are over 35) without success, speaking to a doctor is recommended.

Related: How does the fertile window work? | What is basal body temperature?

What does spotting mean?

Spotting refers to light bleeding or brown discharge that occurs outside your regular period. It can happen for many reasons, most of which are completely normal, including:

You can log spotting in Flow & Glow by tapping a date on the calendar and selecting Spotting under the flow options. This helps the app distinguish spotting from your actual period start.

Medical Disclaimer

Spotting that is heavy, persistent, or occurs after sex should be discussed with a doctor. Always seek medical advice if you are unsure about any bleeding.

Related: How do I log spotting? | Why does the app think my period started when I only had spotting?

What are PMS symptoms and when do they typically occur?

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) refers to a range of physical and emotional symptoms that occur in the days leading up to your period, typically in the luteal phase of your cycle. Common symptoms include:

Flow & Glow uses your symptom logs to identify your personal PMS patterns over time and will start flagging upcoming PMS days once it has enough data. Phase-based guidance in the luteal phase focuses on gentle movement, nourishing food, and stress reduction.

Medical Disclaimer

If PMS symptoms are significantly affecting your daily life, you may be experiencing PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), which is a recognised condition that responds well to treatment. Please speak to a healthcare professional.

GLOSSARY

Cycle Glossary

A plain-language guide to the cycle terms used in Flow and Glow.

Term

What it means

Basal body temperature (BBT)

Your lowest resting body temperature, measured first thing in the morning. A slight rise after ovulation can confirm that ovulation has occurred.

Cervical mucus

Fluid produced by the cervix that changes in texture and amount throughout the cycle. Around ovulation, it typically becomes clear and slippery, similar to egg whites.

Corpus luteum

The structure left behind after an egg is released at ovulation. It produces progesterone to prepare the uterus for potential pregnancy.

Cycle length

The number of days from the first day of one period to the first day of the next.

Fertile window

The days of the cycle when pregnancy is most likely. It typically spans around 6 days, ending on the day of ovulation.

Flow (period flow)

How heavy or light a period is. Flow and Glow lets you log light, medium, or heavy flow each day.

Follicular phase

The first phase of the cycle, from the start of your period until ovulation. Oestrogen rises and an egg develops in one of the ovaries.

Implantation

When a fertilised egg attaches to the lining of the uterus, typically around 6 to 10 days after ovulation.

LH surge

A sharp rise in luteinising hormone (LH) that triggers ovulation, typically 24 to 36 hours before the egg is released. Ovulation test kits detect LH.

Luteal phase

The second half of the cycle, from ovulation to the start of the next period. Progesterone rises to prepare the body for potential pregnancy.

Menstrual phase

The time of your period, when the uterine lining sheds if pregnancy did not occur.

Ovulation

The release of a mature egg from one of the ovaries, typically around the middle of the cycle.

Ovulation phase

The brief window around ovulation, typically lasting 3 to 5 days, when energy and libido often peak.

PCOS

Polycystic ovary syndrome. A hormonal condition that can cause irregular periods, elevated androgen levels, and small fluid-filled sacs (follicles) on the ovaries. Worth discussing with a doctor if you notice very irregular cycles.

PMDD

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder. A severe form of PMS involving significant mood changes that interfere with daily life. It is a recognised condition that responds well to treatment.

PMS

Premenstrual syndrome. Physical and emotional symptoms, such as bloating, mood changes, and fatigue, that occur in the days before a period.

Spotting

Light bleeding or brown discharge outside of a regular period. Often normal, but persistent spotting should be checked with a doctor.
